Rebuilding Together Day: Saturday, April 26, 2003 from 8:30AM to 5PM
Background: The homowner build this house himself many years ago when he was a vigorous carpenter. He is now in his 80s, has health issues, and since his recent major surgery, can't keep up with the maintenance as he has previously.
Before - Note the entire second story is overhanging the carport with no earthquake protection (sitting on posts without shear strength). A strong left-right displacement would topple the second floor (and bedrooms above). |
After (in progress) - Shear walls installed on back and side wall to tie the second floor to the sill plates. |
|
After (different view) Garden chair on brickwork with brick-lined flowerbeds. There sure were a lot of bricks in the back yard... |
